Border Open Spearfishing Challenge 2010 - Report
The Border Open Spearfishing Challenge was held on the weekend of 2nd October.
Driving over the last hill to Hole-the-Wall, potholes were soon forgotten at the sight of the beautiful Wild Coast and pristine sea conditions.
28 divers took part with 9 boats being launched and the day went off without a hitch.
A wide variety, 22 to be exact, of fish species were weighed in (only 1 per specie allowed). Following the weigh-in, juicy steak rolls and salads were enjoyed around the
Hotel pool bar area. Stories of the day included close encounters with whales, fish being mauled by sharks and poensies bumping divers. All entrants received prizes. A number of fish were donated to the local community.
Thanks to Gerhard of the Hole-in-the-Wall hotel for providing the venue and weekend
away prize.
Thanks also to main sponsers, Freedivers and Rob Allen, as well as Dive n Leisure and Rabitech, Alpha Pharm and Target Line.
The Challenge was won by Borders own Greg Audie whose bag included the biggest fish, a poensie of 13.41 kg (gutted)
