Malabar to The Smooth Rockcod
Malabar Rockcod
Malabar rockcod B.F.10kg
The malabar rockcod is marked with numerous blotches and spots. With any
large rockcod shot, special care should be taken with the identification
as you could wrongly identify a possible record. They will normally retreat
into a cave having looked you over. A diving torch comes in handy when hunting
this fish. A 20kg+ fish was shot on deep cracker in 2000.

Orange Spotted Rockcod
Orange Spotted rockcod B.F.15kg
The record for this fish was first seen by a diver who wrongly identified
it as a brindle bass. The second diver then rightly identified it and shot
it and claimed the record much to the disappointment of the first diver.
It just highlights the need to know your fish if you want to claim records.
Not often seen and fairly easy to approach.
